TRANSCOM 2025

Monil Mihirbhai Thakkar, PhD student at Politecnico di Milano, presented his latest research at the Transcom 2025 Conference held from 21st to 23rd May 2025 in High Tatra Mountains, Slovakia. The presentation, titled “Metal Particle Acceleration To Supersonic Speed: Numerical Simulation And Preliminary Results”, showcased feasibility of LINAC-based particle acceleration and bonding.

The work, conducted in collaboration with Dr. Yanwei Li from University of Stuttgart, Dr. Amir Ardeshiri Lordejani, Prof. Mario Guagliano, explored how particle behavior varies under different charge-to-mass ratios. Key findings demonstrated that:

Individual particles require optimized charge-to-mass ratios to reach supersonic speeds.
Effective acceleration is constrained to one particle at a time, even under dynamic voltage switching.
A constant charge-to-mass ratio enables uniform acceleration, but a theoretical upper bound limits applicability to diverse particle types.

This research directly contributes to MADECOLD’s core goal: enabling particle deposition through electric fields, particularly using a LINAC system—validating its feasibility through numerical simulation.
